About EZ Swap 2 (Serial ATA)

     The EZ-Swap 2 Serial ATA version is as convenient as mobile racks get. The EZ-Swap 2 SATA features the ability to directly connect your SATA hard drive without going through any additional circuits. Simply place the hard drive inside the cartridge, screw it in place, and your done. The EZ-Swap 2 SATA also features keyed lock protection to prevent removal while in use. A closer look…

     When it comes to removable hard drive racks, there are 2 very important features they must have. The first one is they must have a well ventilated drive tray or better yet,  an aluminum drive tray to help absorb the heat from the hard drive. Personally, I prefer aluminum drive trays. The second must is the drive tray or rack needs to have a cooling fan to pull or push the hot air out of the drive tray. Without a cooling fan, you may as well put your hard drive in the oven and cook it right along with your turkey. Without a cooling fan, your hard drive will simply cook itself to death over time. Anything beyond these two features such as digital readouts, alarms and lights is nothing more than eye candy and just isn’t needed.

     The EZ Swap 2 was extremely easy to install. The drive rack installed with ease and in seconds the SATA and power cables were connected. A big reason for the ease of installation is due to Vantec’s flawless and high quality design.

     As you may have noticed, the drive bay takes advantage of the plug and play design of Serial ATA. There are not cables inside the drive bay. The only cables we have is the power and SATA cable on the drive rack. When you slide the drive bay in the rack, the connectors on the hard drive itself mate up with the connectors inside the drive rack. This gives the owner true plug and play hard drive racks.

Conclusion

     I really love the Vantec EZ Swap 2 removable hard drive racks for their high quality design and aluminum housing, as well as for their simplicity and ease of use. If you are looking for a removable hard drive rack for your Serial ATA hard drives, the EZ Swap 2 racks are the perfect solution. Due to their superior design, they are also the perfect solution for servers. In fact, that’s exactly what I’m using mine for; gaming servers for local Frag Fest LAN Parties!
