1gb Visiontek Xtreme 2 Go
Drive
Flash drives have been out for years, and just about every company has
one of their own. In fact, there are so many flash drives out there,
when a new company releases one, it really has to stand out from the
crowd. The name behind this one was enough to get my attention. Visiontek, the makers of some of the best video cards on the
planet, now has their own flash drive. Let's check it out and see if it
stands out from the crowd...

About the Xtreme 2 Go
Drive
Like all flash
drives, this one is lightweight and compact, but instead of plastic,
this one is made out of aluminum. It is so small, it can fit in your
pocket or connect to your keychain. It requires no cables, power
supplies, or batteries. You can save and transport your work, music,
videos, pictures, applications, games...anything you like! You can even
make VisionTek Xtreme2 Go Drive bootable.
VisionTek
Xtreme2 Go Drive acts as a removable hard drive when plugged into a USB
port. Operating Systems that support USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 such as Windows
ME/2000/XP, Mac OS and Linux, will automatically detect a removable hard
drive, whereas Windows 98SE requires a driver to be installed.

Performance
According to Visiontek, this 1gb flash drive will transfer data up to
8mb per second. Let's see what Sandra has to say...

I
ran SiSoft Sandra File System Benchmark 3 times, and all three times it
benched the drive at 7MB/s. This is an average speed, so it's hard to
tell what the drive actually peeks at. So, for an average transfer
speed, 7MB/s is very good.
Features
The
Xtreme 2 Go Drive is very simple, but yet it has a couple very nice
features. First of all, it's constructed out of rugged aluminum. Not
only does it look sharp, but it should last a very long time as well.
Next it has a write protect switch to keep you from accidentally
deleting your files.
Software
Other than the drivers, the Xtreme 2 Go drive comes with some nice
software. I think the best one is the security software that locks the
drive with a password. You can also make the drive a bootable hard
drive. Better yet, with 1gig of space, you can pretty much do anything
you want with it such as install games or special software.
Conclusion
Overall, I'm very impressed with Visiontek's version of the Flash Drive.
The drive is of the highest quality, and it comes with some pretty nice
software. As far as price goes, 1gb drives are still expensive, but you
can't help but love the price of this one... Right now Visiontek has a
sale going on this model drive. For only $99.00, you can have a flash
drive just like the one I reviewed. Searching the internet I found that
this is as much as $50 to $100 less than other similar drives of cheaper
quality. ClubOC Recommended!
