What more could you want for your modified case then a few more lights! Of
course I have all the lights I need, so when ClubOC asked me to review a badge
light I was naturally curious. I've seen quite a few case badges from different
manufacturers, but lighted case badges didn't register in my mind until I
checked it out at CrazyPC. This mod does take a bit of time with a Dremel, but
if you take your time and do it right, your result will be personal satisfaction
in knowing you did the mod yourself. The Instructions call for a 1/2 drill bit,
but what kind of casual overclocker would want to use a drill when a Dremel is
so much more convenient. The Badge Lite is also
relatively easy to install, since it contains all the necessary hardware, and
excellent instructions.
Specifications
- 24" (609mm) wire harness.
Long enough to let you install in a full size tower without stretching your
power supply power cables. Long enough to let you hide the wire and keep the
inside of you case looking good.
Y adapter. This is
a separate part so you don't have to use it if you don't need it but it's
there in case you do.
5 ½ inches (138.7mm) by 4 ¼
inches (108mm) Printable Sticker Sheet. As a bonus we've included a
sheet of material you can use to make your own stickers. This will give you a
chance to see what colors work well with your light and give you something to
cover your light with until your case badge arrives.
Light unit -the
heart of this kit. It has a protective paper cover on the front of the light
diffuser. The light diffuser is a special plastic designed to spread light
across the badge and to the edges as much as possible. The back of the
diffuser is coated with adhesive so you can attach the light to ANY flat
surface on your case that has enough room for the connector inside. The light
source is a high power LED (Light Emitting Diode) that generates virtually no
heat and uses less than .5 watts of power with a mean time between failure of
100,000 hours. The light will be available in red, green, blue, and yellow.
Installation and Features

Like I said before the kit is very complete, and easy to
install and use. Its much lie installing a cold cathode light except that you
have to make a hole.

A few passes with my Dremel on "3" turned this Raidmax
faceplate into mush. It took maybe 1 min to finish the hole so the Badge Lite
would fit snugly using the double-sided tape provided.

The finished product. Notice that I left the double-side tape
on to protect the Badge Lite from getting scratch until I put it back onto the
case.
Conclusion

A shot in the dark! This would look pretty darn cool with some
cold cathodes and such. The red is shown here, although the light comes in
green, blue, or yellow.
I encountered no issues with the Badge Lite,
although I would like to mention to
CrazyPC that they should offer it as a mod
to their existing case line-up as an option. Some folks may not want to mod
their own cases, or just may be in the need for a new case and want one of these
cool Badge Lite's on it. Regardless, the CrazyPC Badge Lite is Club Overclocker recommended!
