Cold Cathode Light Kit
Application: Computer Case Light Mod

Review date: November 30th, 2002

I remember the first time I put a neon light in a case.  I thought it was cool, but I never imagined that it would catch on the way it did.  That was 6 years ago and now and the market has tons of kits for the average modder to chose from.  Today's lights are much smaller than the lights we used from the car audio shop, and much brighter.

The kit I'm looking at today, has everything you need to completely install the light.  The contents are as follows.  4" blue cathode, power inverter, three pieces of Velcro, power switch, and all the wiring that you will need.

Here you can see the components of the kit itself.

The kit is very easy to install.  No directions are needed.  Plug it in and the light comes on.  The only tricky part at all is installing the on/off switch.  That is even made simpler with the included template.  Tape the template to the case where you want the switch and start dremeling.

I choose an empty drive bay cover to install my switch.  All that is left to do is choose a location for the light and attach the power connector.  Before I installed the light I needed to test everything and make sure it works.

Installed in less than 20 minutes.  ZXmods makes this installation easy by providing a well thought out kit.  The only thing that you need to provide yourself is the dremel tool, for the switch.  This kit was so easy to install I let my 10 month old daughter install it.

The kit is only $19.95 and comes in Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, white, and ultra violet.  This is a nice way to add a little flare to your case.

Head over to ZXmods and pick one up.
