I love mods. I got into modding at about the same time that I
started overclocking. For me, I get more smiles from people by
showing them pictures of my computers than I do from telling them that
I'm running at 3.0GHz and there isn't a 3.0GHz chip yet. Don't get
me wrong, overclocking is a necessity for me, I just like modding.
The computer industry finally realized that people didn't want the same
old beige computer any more so they started making their computers with
a little more flare. One of the big reasons that the big OEMs
started listening was smaller companies started catering to the modding
community. ZXmods is one of those companies that cater to us
modders. They've been around for a couple of years and one of
their goals is to get high quality modding supplies and kits to the
public. The kit that I will be looking at today is a power supply acrylic cover. This is a very easy mod and can be completed by anyone in just a few minutes. In fact, it's so easy that I'm going to show you how to complete the mod in this review. What's included The kit comes with everything that you need to complete the installation. Included is the acrylic, pre-molded cover, 4 strips of double sided tape, zip tie, and instructions.
The kit that I have has a 80mm fan hole pre-drilled. This was a small problem for me, but I was able to work around it. The power supply that I have has a 92mm fan. I was able to find a 80mm fan that worked well. ZXmods is now selling the cover with no hole or a 80mm or 92mm hole. Make sure you know which one you need before ordering. Installation The power supply that I chose for this mod is a fairly popular brand that is used by a lot of serious enthusiasts. I'm talking about a Enermax power supply.
I first saw the dual fan design on an Enermax power supply. The quality of power that comes from an Enermax has made them a favorite for computer power users. Like I said earlier, the top fan is a 92mm fan and I have a 80mm hole. Minor problem. Digging through my computer junk I found a fan that was perfect for this application. And to think, my wife wanted me to get rid of that stuff.
