MGE XG Vigor 500 PSU

Just when you think you've reviewed every power supply known to man, something new comes along and just blows you away! Our friends at Cooler Guys have sent us over a killer PSU manufactured by MGE called the Extreme Gamer Vigor 500. Even at an incredible 500 watts, I thought that this was just another plain-Jane power supply... After all, we've reviewed quite a few over the years. Once I opened the box, I realized that I could never have been more wrong.

Once I saw this PSU, I realized that MGE had really gone over the top in both the quality and modding departments. First of all, the housing is CHROME PLATED! This alone would make any PSU stand out in a crowd, but MGE didn't stop there. MGE went on to add two window mods to each side of the housing, dual LED cooling fans, fan speed controller, nylon sleeving over all the wiring, and the latest in 4-pin power connectors that we've just seen from Vantec and A.C. Ryan. The entire unit just screams quality craftsmanship.

It seems like the latest fad in PSUs these days is the giant 120mm cooling fan. Power supplies are one of the hottest components in a computer system so cooling is extremely important. With dual cooling fans, I'd say MGE has the heat issue thoroughly covered.

In the back is a heavy duty fan speed controller. This controller controls both cooling fans at the same time, not just one.

Here is a good look a the secondary cooling fan. This fan also has built in LEDs. Our particular model has blue LEDs, however these PSUs are also available with red or green LED fans.
