A power supply is a power supply right? If you
own a "PC in a box" this statement would be true. If you're custom
building a hard core gaming system then those twenty dollar power
supplies included in your brand X computer will no longer be
acceptable. It wasn't long ago when a 500 watt power supply was
considered top notch. These days a 500w power supply is at the
bottom of the totem pole, especially when it comes to building a
gaming system. Today's gaming systems with multiple video cards
require a ton of power. Recommendations vary from manufacturer to
manufacturer, but a fully configured computer with 1 high end video
card requires a 500 to 600 watts power supply at minimum. Again,
bare minimum... When you start
stacking video cards the wattage requirement can go up
significantly. Personally, "minimum" requirements just will not do,
so I typically run with a high quality 750 to 800 watt power supply.
Today we go well beyond minimum requirements and take a look at
one of most critically acclaimed power supplies of all time, the
Kingwin Mach 1. This time Kingwin has sent over their new Mach 1
boasting an incredible 1220 watts of power! Undoubtedly 1220 watts
is more than enough power for even the most competitive gamers, but
how does this new Mach 1 rate in the quality department? Let's take
a closer look at this beast and find out...
