When you hear the Mushkin name you automatically think of high quality
memory...but a power supply? That's right, Mushkin now has their own
Power Supply. Right now you can purchase Mushkin power supplies in 550w,
580w, and 650w versions. The one we have here today is the 580AP, 580
watt version with removable power cables. The 580AP is a great looking
black PSU designed for mid to high end gaming systems.
The
market is very crowded with all sorts of power supplies from many
manufactures so Mushkin's biggest challenge is to make their power
supply stand out in the crowd. To do that, Mushkin doesn't need a fancy
name or fancy box. In a crowded market, it's all about trust. All
Mushkin has to do is use the same quality and workmanship they put into
their memory and their power supplies will sell based on the name
"Mushkin Enhanced" because people trust Mushkin's products. I know I've
come to trust Mushkin memory, but can I trust their power supplies?
Let's take a look at the 580AP PSU and see if Mushkin has a unique
product that is worth of our trust.

HP-580AP Enhanced Power Supply:
Mushkin's Enhanced Power Supply line offers the capacity and stability
to feed the latest generation of computers with clean, reliable power.
With very tight voltage regulation and low ripple, Mushkin power
supplies provide the reliability you would expect from a performance
leader.

In the box:

The
580AP comes with everything you need; the power supply, power cables,
power cord, and directions.

The
580AP is a modular power supply. This means the power cables are
removable so you don't have to worry about extra cables getting in the
way or cluttering up your computer case.
Cables:

Each cable is neatly wrapped and has heat shrink coating at each end of
the cable wrap. Mushkin has done a great job with their cables. They
look and feel like heavy duty, high quality cables. Just what you would
expect from a high end power supply.

Mushkin has gone over the top with their video card power cables. Each
cable is shielded and coated with clear rubber. This is the first power
supply I've seen that comes standard from the manufacturer with shielded
video card power cables. Talk about bonus points.

Mushkin must have figured that since they are going all out with the
video power cables, they may as well go all out with the 110v PSU power
cord as well. The picture you see above is a shielded power supply cord
unlike anything I've ever seen before. It's becoming obvious that
Mushkin spared no expense in making this power supply.

Above is a photo of the motherboard power connectors...but what's this
third wire? The wire at the bottom of the photo is a ground wire. You
connect this wire to the system chassis to ensure the PSU is fully
grounded. I don't think Mushkin left anything to chance with their
580AP.
