Logitech Extreme PC Gaming
Headset

Today we will be
taking a look at Logitech’s Extreme PC Gaming Headset! First off, I
would like to say that it has been as hard as trying to get out of Hades
for me to find a decent pair of gaming headphones/mic set that doesn’t
cost an arm and a leg.

Comfort next to
sound has always been a big factor for many when it comes to shopping
for gaming headphones. Even more comes into play about comfort when it
comes to behind-the-head headphones. This style tends to have an
annoying habit of after several hours of gaming to irritate the tops and
back of your ear. I have found the reason for this (as many of you
probably have figured out) and is caused by the open space that is
around the folded plastic for which the wires are run to the speakers
and microphone. Many companies don’t take the time to round these areas
out or flip the wire run space to the top of the part that wraps around
your ear.

Logitech has
done a great job of designing the headset other than the afore mentioned
problem. Chrome accents help them stand out nicely in a crowd. The
microphone has a feature that I have never seen before in a headset- As
you can adjust the tilt of the
receiver, it has a stopper so that it doesn’t fall down as most mics
tend to do after being moved around quiet a bit. This is a well
appreciated feature that I would like to see in more headsets. The
inline volume control is of much higher quality than often seen. You
don’t see a shirt/pocket clip on many of these, and it too is much
appreciated. It’s nice not having to fumble around to adjust the volume
while you’re playing a game; instead reaching for the place that you
clipped the controller to. Also on the controller is a mic mute switch.
This is excellent for those of you that use sound activation in your
favorite chat program such as Team Speak or Ventrillo. At 10ft, cable
length is not an issue.
Technical Specs:
- Frequency Response:
Headset: 20Hz-20 KHz
Microphone: 100Hz-16 KHz
- Sensitivity: -59dBV/ubar,
-39dBV/Pa+4 dB
- Cable length: 10
feet
Audio on the headset is very crisp and
clear, with great ranges. It certainly isn’t a pair of Sennheisers,
but nonetheless, the audio is wonderful. Ever had the problem while
playing a game at a LAN, and not being able to hear footsteps or
whatever else because of all the background noise? You will not have
that problem with this headset, nice loud audio with little to no
distortion. At max volume, it was a tad too loud for my likings, but
again, the audio was just as clear.
Conclusion:
Logitech has
again done another great job with another great product for us gamers.
This headset defiantly leads the top of the middle-budget headsets.
Great audio, pleasing aesthetics, and small extra features that make the
difference. I only have one complaint with the set, and that is the
discomfort caused with the wire run being on the underside of the part
that wraps around your ears. This rubs against that area and causes more
discomfort than I care for.
With the
exception of the wire run opening, I am very please. Logitech is known
for making high-quality products, and they didn’t let down even in a
more budget-minded segment of the market.
